Day 25 - Outside Gardnerville (Pinenut Mountains)

Today Justin borrowed his family's 4X4 vehicle as we had decided to drive into the Pinenut Mountains that surround Gardnerville. As the roads here are only accessible by such vehicles we could not use Justin's old car. We took a track that lead near a small creek. After some driving through some rough, bumpy and rocky roads we decided to stop and walk around. We found the area to have mixed vegetation, with grassy areas as well as some interesting trees that were twisted in nature. We walked for about 20 minutes, before turning around. By that time Justin was hungry, so we headed back towards
Gardnerville to the local Denny's restaurant (Justin's favorite).

After flicking sugar packets around (Justin tended to have long flicks and at one stage reached the far seat in the next booth) and changing the names on the artificial sweetener packets (from Sweet and Low to Sour and High) we decided to head back into the Pinenuts as we could see a fire in the distance. Although when we got there we did find the fire was further away than we had thought, we did go on some interesting driving. After going down a very steep canyon and weaving around sagebrush, we found the road was getting harder to see. Eventually it got so bad that we turned around and went back another way. The next road was just as bad though with a lot of very small bumps that we needed to go over. At one stage I hit my head on the roof of the vehicle. Again we found we had to turn back as there were too small canyons even steeper than the one we had previously gone through. We headed back after an interesting driving day.
