Before leaving Whitecliffs, I tried my luck
at fossicking for opal in the mounds above the underground hotel. Although I did
not manage to find any pieces, Justin did find more old cars to take a photo of!
It was then back on the road again. Along the way the scenery began to change
from that of a flat desert with only small amounts of vegetation, to a landscape
which contained gum trees and other land vegetation. Our only stop for today was
to Mount Grenfell. Here we finally got to see some good examples of Aboriginal
Rock Art. Reminding us much of the Mudokon art that we see on the walls of the
Paramonian and Scrabanian Temples, this art depicted mainly human figures, emus,
and other wildlife. Very well preserved, it was protected by a fence to stop
both human and native destruction. It was interesting to see that a thin
branched tree had adapted to the fence, by growing it's branches in a twisting
form around the fence. We were able to visit three rock art sites here, all in
close proximity of each other. Each was able to give us a feel of the native
Aboriginals, and finally Justin was able to see such art.
We continued onto Cobar which was our stop for the night. Tomorrow we would be
heading south, getting nearer to Sydney, where we would soon have our chance to
meet some more Oddworld fans.
