Day 4 - San Jose to San Luis Obispo

After loading our luggage and Xbox back into the car, we are heading to the Winchester Mystery House. However, in what is becoming regular for the Odd Tour, we find ourselves once again getting lost!  Strange cities and us just seem to have a thing about getting lost at the moment!  Several roads and freeways later we finally find the place and head on in.  The Winchester Mystery House was built onto Sarah Winchester, the wife of the second president of the Winchester Repeating Arms company.  It is said that after her husband's death the spirits of those killed by the Winchester firearms came to her and told her if she didn't continually build onto a house, the same fate would happen to her and she would be killed. So for 35 years she built onto this house.  It's like no house that we have ever seen before.  Strange rooms and doorways everywhere.  Everything seems to be inter-joined.  Windows inside the house, or doors going to nowhere.  It's an amazing sight!  We took two tours, one of the house and another of the outer buildings and the basement which had some spooky dark hallways.

Next it was back on our way down the Pacific Coast Highway.  Twists and turns met us at every moment.  It was sure an experience traveling this road in Justin's car.  The 48 year old suspension meant holding on around corners many, many times.  Finally we arrived in San Luis Obispo and took a drive past the Oddworld building.  Somehow we managed to get on a road that was taking us back North again... so guess what, we had to turn around!  We found a Denny's resturant and had dinner. Although in the stall behind us were two women... well if you could call one of them that, as she looked and sounded like a male and talked loud on top of that.  Justin amused us by making actions and funny faces!  After that unexpected mileage earlier, we thought it time to check the gas.  Justin found that we had only 3 ohms of gas remaining, so we were frantically driving around trying to find a gas station that was open.  When we did, Justin had to push through a group of people who were all eating packets of chips!  That was strange!  Our next challenge was to find a hotel room for the night.  We seemed to be greeted by No Vacancy signs everywhere, and those that didn't have them told us they were full up.  Finally we had no choice but to spend the night in the car.  Justin took the back seat while I took the front.  Parked in an apartment building's parking lot, we managed to catch some somewhat uncomfortable sleep!
